For Guests

Everything you need to know about being a guest on Signal

Can you tell me more about Signal?

Signal is a new, independent podcast launching its first season. We feature long-form conversations with thought leaders across psychology, technology, economics, history, philosophy, and personal development.

Our goal is to offer listeners clear, thoughtful discussions that combine personal insight with actionable ideas for living well and thinking deeply.

The tone is professional but warm — curious, respectful, and meaningful, without being overly scripted.

About Signal

What's the audience like?

Our target audience includes lifelong learners, professionals, students, and anyone interested in thoughtful exploration of complex ideas.

We aim to reach an engaged, growth-oriented audience who value depth over sensationalism.

Where will the episode be published?

Signal episodes will be distributed on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, YouTube, and other major platforms.

We also promote episodes through our website (thesignalpodcast.com), email list, and social media channels.

What's your audience size?

Since we are in the launch phase, we're focusing first on building a strong foundation with high-quality episodes and excellent guests.

Our goal is to grow steadily and authentically through quality content, partnerships, and targeted marketing campaigns during Season 1.

Can I suggest someone else to be a guest?

Please do! We're always looking to connect with thoughtful people doing interesting work. If someone comes to mind, we'd love an introduction.

Who else are you interviewing / have you interviewed?

For our first season, we're speaking with a diverse lineup of guests including psychologists, technologists, authors, and economists.

About the Interview

What kinds of questions will you ask?

We prepare custom questions for each guest based on your work, but the tone is conversational, not confrontational. Expect thoughtful, open-ended prompts that invite you to share ideas, stories, and perspectives. You're also welcome to suggest topics or steer the conversation if something feels important to explore.

Will I get to see the questions in advance?

We don't use a strict script, but we're happy to share a few core questions or themes ahead of time if that helps you feel more comfortable.

Can I talk about my latest project/book/research?

Yes! We love when guests share their latest work, and we're happy to carve out time in the episode to spotlight it meaningfully — not just a plug, but how it ties into the themes of the conversation.

Can I curse or talk about controversial topics?

We aim for open, honest conversations, so nothing's off-limits as long as it's thoughtful and respectful. If there's anything sensitive, we can always discuss it before or after recording.

Technical Setup

How will the interview be recorded?

We use Riverside.fm for remote interviews.

We'll send a link ahead of time — you just need a quiet space, a computer with a webcam and microphone, and a stable internet connection.

Is it audio-only or video too?

We do record video, but the focus is on the audio.

Video is important for promotion, but most of our full-episode listeners will be audio-only.

Do I need professional equipment?

Nope! If you don't own a studio microphone, we'd be happy to send you one to ensure you sound your best. You're welcome to keep it as a 'thank you' for coming on the show.

Preparation & Logistics

Is there anything I should do to prepare?

We recommend giving yourself a few quiet minutes before the interview to settle in. If you'd like, we can also share a short prep doc with sample questions and context for the episode.

How long will it actually take?

The interview itself will run about 45–60 minutes.

I usually recommend setting aside about 75 minutes total to allow time for setup, a quick pre-chat, and any follow-up after recording.

When are you hoping to record?

We're flexible and happy to work around your schedule.

Ideally sometime within the next 4–6 weeks, but we can move faster or slower depending on what works best for you.

Post-Recording

Will the conversation be edited?

Yes, we lightly edit interviews to improve flow, audio quality, and clarity — but we preserve the authentic conversation and don't alter the meaning of anything.

You're always welcome to flag anything during or after recording that you'd like us to adjust.

Can I review my portion before it goes live?

Absolutely. We'll share your episode draft with you before publishing to ensure you're happy with how everything sounds.

How long will it take for my episode to be released?

We aim to publish episodes within 2–4 weeks of recording, depending on the production schedule. We'll keep you posted on timelines and promotion plans.

Can I get a transcript of the interview?

Yes — we can provide a transcript upon request, either for accessibility or for your own use (like pulling quotes for your newsletter, blog, etc.).

Rights & Promotion

Who owns the final episode?

Signal owns the final, edited podcast episode, but you retain rights to your own voice and likeness. You're free to use your portion however you'd like — clips, transcripts, etc.

Do I retain rights to my portion of the recording?

Yes, you retain the right to use or share your own interview portion however you'd like.

Our only ask is that you allow Signal to publish and promote the conversation as part of our regular content.

Can I opt out after recording?

We respect your autonomy. If after recording you decide not to publish the episode, just let us know. We want guests to feel good about participating.

Will you provide promotional graphics or audio clips?

Yes, we'll send a curated set of assets — square images, audiograms, and suggested copy for social media or newsletters — so you can share the episode with ease.

What if I want to promote it afterward?

We'd love for you to share the episode with your audience if you're willing!

We'll provide social media assets, a direct link, and any custom materials you'd like to make it easy.
